2011 INTERNATIONAL FULBRIGHT SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING FOREIGN STUDENTS

PROGRAM DESIGN:ECA is now soliciting nominations for candidates to participate in the 2011 International Fulbright Science and Technology Program. Grantees will be enrolled for Ph.D. study at top U.S. universities in the fields of science, technology, or engineering for academic year 2011-2012. The International Fulbright Science and Technology Award is a worldwide program.

  2. Agriculture (theoretical or research-based focus only)
  3. Astronomy/planetary sciences
  4. Biology
  5. Biomedical engineering
  6. Chemistry
  7. Computer sciences/engineering
  8. Energy
  9. Engineering (electrical, chemical, civil, mechanical, ocean, and petroleum)
  10. Environmental science/engineering
  11. Geology/earth and atmospheric sciences
  12. Information sciences and systems (engineering focus only)
  13. Materials science/engineering
  14. Mathematics
  15. Neuroscience
  16. Oceanography
  17. Public health (theoretical research focus only)
  18. Physics

For 2010, agriculture has been included as a new field and while agriculture tends to be a fairly applied field of study, those wishing to pursue theoretical and research-based study in such areas as entomology, plant biology, plant pathology, and soil science are eligible for this award.

ELIGIBILITY Applicants must be citizens of Chile and must apply through the Fulbright Commission in Chile. Applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree before August 1, 2010, be proficient in English with a TOEFL IBT score  of 90 or higher, IELTS score of 6,5 or higher, or a ETAAPP score of 85% or higher and take GRE exam, a nominee is expected to achieve a quantitative score of at least 700.

Important Note: a GRE Subject Exam score report will also be needed for all selected candidates in the following fields of study: biology; biochemistry, cell, and molecular biology; chemistry; computer science; mathematics; and physics and astronomy. GRE subject is paper-based and occurs in October and November of each year only.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES: Each applicant will be required to submit an online application at: https://apply.embark.com/student/fulbright/international along with all supporting documents. The online application will be available on February 1, 2010. A complete application package for each nominee should be forwarded to Fulbright Chile no later than Friday, April 30th.

A complete application must contain the following fields:

1. Pages 4 (study objective) and 5 (personal statement) contain a header that displays on the PDF view. Therefore, you must leave a  inch (4cm) margin at the top of every page of your essays to allow space for the header that will appear on the print version of your application.

2. In page 6 you may want to attach a professional resume or a complete curriculum vitae

3. In pag 7 of the online application the following documents have to be uploaded in one file of 1mb maximum size:

   (a) Copy of Cédula de Identidad

   (b) Undergraduate and Postgraduate Certificates (Título)

   (c) Undergraduate and Postgraduate Transcripts Certificates (Concentración de notas)

   (d) Undergraduate and Postgraduate Ranking Certificate

   (e) P.S.U. / P.A.A. Certificate

   (f) Certificates of Scholarships or Awards if applicable

   (g) Certificate of Teaching Assistantship and/or Teaching is applicable

   (h) Documents to certificate volunteer activities

   (i) Score reports: TOEFL, IELTS or ETAAPP and General GRE exam

4. In page 8 you should register three references. They should doing a letter of recommendation and submitted it electronically in the online application or official paper copies sent by regular mail or by hand to Fulbright Chile.

AWARD BENEFITS All grantees receive tuition, a monthly stipend for up to 36 months, health and accident coverage, a book and equipment allowance, professional conference allowance, travel support, and specially tailored enrichment activities, and are eligible to apply for additional research funding. After three years, U.S. universities have agreed to fund the remaining expenses toward completion of a Ph.D.

SCREENING AND SELECTION Fulbright Commission in Chile does a selection process, which includes a personal interview of pre-selected candidates. The nominees are sent to the U.S. for final selection by a U.S.-based selection committee, which will include prominent academics and professionals in the appropriate scientific fields. Final selection will be made by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FSB).

U.S. UNIVERSITY PLACEMENT IIE will be responsible for placement of all Fulbright Science and Technology Award recipients.
